Basalt is a volcanic igneous rock — dense, fine-grained, and naturally dark. Where marble announces itself with veining and travertine warms a space with earth tones, basalt anchors. Its deep charcoal and near-black palette creates architectural weight and quiet sophistication that aligns perfectly with the minimalist, Japandi, and contemporary design aesthetics defining the best residential and hospitality interiors today.

      Honed Basalt
Smooth, flat matte surface. The most common finish — clean and architectural. Suitable for most indoor floor and wall applications.
      Brushed Basalt
Lightly textured matte surface created by wire brushing. More tactile and organic. Excellent for outdoor and interior feature wall applications.
      Flamed Basalt
Rough, crystallized surface from heat treatment. Highly slip-resistant — the standard finish for outdoor pavers, pool surrounds, and commercial applications.

Basalt is available in charcoal, blue-gray, and near-black color varieties in field tile and mosaic formats. It performs exceptionally across a wide range of applications:

What basalt pairs with: Warm light oak and walnut, linen and natural textiles, matte black and warm brass fixtures, white plaster walls, and concrete — the material palette that defines Japandi and contemporary minimalist interiors. Basalt is the natural stone that completes this aesthetic without competing with it.

Like all natural stone, basalt requires sealing with a penetrating stone sealer before and after installation, and re-sealing annually in high-use areas. Basalt absorbs oil-based substances readily — address spills immediately and ensure aggressive initial sealing in kitchen applications. Free samples are available on all basalt products.
