      Travertine Tile FAQ

What's the difference between filled and unfilled travertine?

Travertine naturally has small pits and holes. Filled travertine has those holes filled at the factory for a smooth, even surface. Unfilled travertine leaves them open for a more textured, rustic look.

      What finishes do you carry?

Honed and filled (smooth matte), tumbled (soft, worn edges for an old-world look), brushed and chiseled (textured with chipped edges), vein cut (linear striped pattern) and polished (glossy).

What colors does travertine come in?

Ivory, Gold, Walnut, Silver, Noce, Scabos, Durango and Philadelphia, from soft cream to deep brown and gray.

      Is travertine good for flooring?

Travertine flooring is a timeless choice for kitchens, bathrooms, entries and living areas. Honed and filled travertine floor tile gives a smooth, elegant surface, while tumbled travertine adds a softer, old-world feel with good grip underfoot.

Can I use travertine in a bathroom or shower?

Yes. Honed and filled or tumbled travertine is a classic choice for bathroom floors and shower walls. Seal it well, and reseal wet areas about every 12 months.

Does travertine need to be sealed?

Yes. All travertine should be sealed with a penetrating stone sealer. Clean it with a pH-neutral cleaner and avoid vinegar or lemon-based products.

      Can travertine go outside?

Yes, in the right format. For pool decks and patios, choose our 3cm travertine pavers and matching pool coping, made for outdoor use.

How thick is your travertine tile?

Most travertine field tile is 3/8" or 1/2" thick, depending on the shipment. Mosaics are 3/8". Pavers and coping are 3cm or 5cm.

How much extra should I order?

Add about 10% for cuts and waste, and 15% for patterns like Versailles or herringbone. Your sample comes from the lot we have in stock now, so it shows that lot's actual color range and finish. Future lots may look lighter, darker, or more veined, so order your full quantity plus 10% at once to keep the whole job from one lot.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. Samples are $7.99 each and ship free, so you can see the real material in your own light before you order.
