Getting your estimate right
We recommend 10% overage for porcelain and 15% for natural stone. Keep leftover tiles — they're essential for future repairs. Natural stone from a specific quarry lot can be impossible to match later.
Don't subtract window and door openings unless they're very large. The tile needed to cut around openings often equals or exceeds the area saved. When in doubt, include the full wall area.
Natural stone tiles vary between quarry lots. Always order your full quantity from one purchase. If you run short and need to reorder, the new batch may not match. Order once, order enough.
A 45° diagonal installation requires 15%+ extra material due to the angled cuts at every wall edge. Herringbone and other decorative patterns also increase waste significantly.
Our calculator provides a reliable estimate — but a professional tile installer who has seen your space can give you the most accurate quantity. Always have your installer review before ordering.
