About 2×2 Tumbled Philadelphia Travertine Mosaic Tile

Material Education

Philadelphia travertine is a warm, earthy natural stone characterized by its rich blend of ivory, walnut, and russet tones, with subtle linear banding and natural voids that give it an unmistakably organic character. Quarried from classic travertine deposits, this stone carries the same timeless appeal found in ancient Roman architecture, with a surface texture that feels both rustic and refined. The tumbled finish softens the edges and face of each chip, lending a weathered, antique quality that polished stone simply cannot replicate.

As a product of nature, Philadelphia travertine will display variation in tone, pitting, and veining from chip to chip and sheet to sheet — this is the hallmark of authentic natural stone, not an inconsistency.

About this mosaic: These 2×2 square chips are pre-mounted on a mesh-backed sheet, grouping multiple pieces into a ready-to-install mosaic that dramatically reduces layout time and grout joint alignment effort on the jobsite.

Design & Inspiration

Philadelphia travertine's warm palette of ivory, caramel, and terracotta harmonizes beautifully with oil-rubbed bronze or matte gold fixtures, reclaimed white oak cabinetry, and warm linen textiles, making it a natural fit for Mediterranean, Tuscan, rustic farmhouse, and organic-modern interiors. Its earthy, sun-baked hues bring a sense of timeless warmth to any space.

The 2×2 tumbled format works especially well on shower floors and spa-style wet areas, where the textured surface adds slip resistance and the smaller chip size conforms gracefully to curved or sloped surfaces. On a bathroom feature wall or kitchen backsplash, this mosaic creates a richly tactile surface with an old-world artisanal feel.

Popular design combinations: pair this mosaic on a shower floor with large-format Philadelphia travertine field tiles in a honed finish on the surrounding walls for a cohesive, spa-inspired retreat. Premium Natural Stone

Philadelphia travertine is a beloved natural stone prized for its warm ivory-to-walnut color range, organic linear veining, and characteristic surface pitting that tells the story of its geological formation. This tumbled mosaic brings those qualities to a convenient mesh-backed sheet format, perfect for both residential and commercial projects.

The tumbled finish rounds and softens each 2×2 chip along its edges and face, producing a naturally aged, cobblestone-like surface with gentle texture and matte warmth. Mounted on a fiberglass mesh backing, the sheets align quickly and consistently, making installation straightforward even for moderately experienced tile setters.

This mosaic is ideally suited for shower floors, bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, and outdoor courtyard accents where a rustic, old-world aesthetic is desired. Because travertine is a naturally porous stone with surface voids, we strongly recommend ordering a sample to confirm color match and reviewing our care guidelines before installation.

Free Shipping: As a mosaic, this product qualifies for free curbside shipping on orders over $1,999 within the continental U.S. Orders below that threshold ship at standard rates calculated at checkout.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Philadelphia travertine is a porous natural stone and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation. In wet areas such as showers, re-seal every 12–18 months with a penetrating stone sealer. For dry applications such as a backsplash, annual sealing is sufficient. The tumbled finish is particularly absorbent due to its open texture, so do not skip this step.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap diluted in warm water. Never use acidic cleaners such as vinegar, citrus-based products, or grout haze removers, as acid will etch and dissolve travertine. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can scratch the softened tumbled surface. Wipe spills — especially from wine, juice, or coffee — promptly to prevent staining.

Installation: Use white polymer-modified thinset mortar to prevent any gray bleed-through on lighter chips. A non-sanded grout is recommended for joints under 1/8 inch; sanded grout may be used if joints are wider. Back-butter each sheet lightly in addition to troweling the substrate for full coverage. Align mesh sheets carefully and press firmly with a grout float to ensure all chips are fully embedded. Fill natural travertine voids with grout during the grouting stage for a clean, sanitary finish on floors.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.
