The San Zaccaria mosaic celebrates the storied tradition of Venetian terrazzo, reinterpreted in dolomite black limestone—a dense, fine-grained stone with a deep charcoal base and understated grey veining that lends quiet drama to any space.

Chips are arranged in a scattered, multi-size terrazzo pattern and pre-mounted on mesh backing, making alignment intuitive and installation significantly faster than hand-setting individual pieces. The natural matte finish preserves the stone's organic character while delivering a surface that is smooth to the touch.

This mosaic is ideal for feature shower walls, powder room accent walls, kitchen backsplashes, and decorative niche linings; because it is a dark natural limestone, sealing before grouting is strongly recommended, and a sample tile is advised to confirm the tone and texture suit your project lighting conditions.

Sealing: Seal this dolomite black limestone mosaic with a high-quality penetrating stone sealer before grouting and again after installation. In wet areas such as showers, reseal every 12–18 months to protect the stone matrix from moisture infiltration and staining. Despite its dark color, limestone remains porous and benefits from consistent sealing maintenance.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge—never use acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus-based products) or alkaline degreasers, as these will etch the limestone surface and dull the honed finish. Blot spills immediately, especially oils and colored liquids, to prevent absorption into the stone.

Installation: Use a white or grey polymer-modified thinset mortar; a grey thinset is appropriate for this dark stone and will not lighten the chip color. Back-butter each mesh sheet in addition to the substrate for full coverage and strong bond. Use non-sanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch; align mesh sheets carefully to maintain the natural terrazzo appearance across the field. Allow thinset to cure fully before grouting.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.
