Basalt Black Modern Chairrail2 × 12 Honed

A honed black basalt chair rail, 2 × 12 inches, for drawing a quiet horizontal line across bath walls and wainscoting.

Deep charcoal basalt with fine pale flecks and a smooth, low-sheen honed surface. A recessed line runs the length of the piece, giving the rail a crisp shadow. Basalt has no veining, so the look is calm and even.

Set it horizontally to divide tile zones, cap wainscoting, or mark a line across a feature wall. It is made for indoor wall use. Free shipping over $1,999 applies to moldings.

Samples are $7.99 each, up to 10 per order. Samples ship free and leave within 1-3 business days. Your sample comes from the lot we have in stock now, so it shows that lot's actual color range and finish. Future lots may look lighter, darker, or more veined, so order your full quantity plus 10% at once to keep the whole job from one lot.

Care & Cleaning

Seal It

Apply a penetrating stone sealer before grouting. In wet areas such as showers, reseal annually.

Clean It

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. Skip acidic, citrus, vinegar-based, or abrasive products, which can dull the honed surface. Wipe spills promptly.

Expect This

Fine light flecks and subtle tonal shifts are part of natural basalt. Inspect pieces before installing, and order 10% extra for cuts and repairs.

Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. Installation method, setting materials, and substrate are your installer's responsibility. Inspect every piece before setting; installation is acceptance, and installed material cannot be returned or claimed.

Questions

Will my order match the sample?

Your sample comes from the lot we have in stock now, so it shows that lot's actual color range and finish. Future lots may look lighter, darker, or more veined, so order your full quantity plus 10% at once to keep the whole job from one lot.

Can I use this chair rail in a shower?

You can use it on bathroom walls, including as a border around a shower niche. Seal it before grouting and reseal annually in wet areas. The profile is not rated for floor traffic, so keep it to walls.

Does honed basalt need sealing?

A penetrating stone sealer keeps the honed surface protected. Apply it before grouting, then annually in wet areas. Dark color can hide staining, but sealing is still recommended.

How do I order a sample?

Add up to 10 samples to one order at $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave within 1-3 business days.

Is shipping free on this molding?

Free shipping applies to molding orders over $1,999. Orders under that amount ship at rates calculated at checkout.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
Some natural stone and porcelain products contain substances known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Details at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
