About Ivory Travertine 6×6 Tumbled Tile

Material Education

Ivory Travertine is a warm, sedimentary limestone formed over millennia by mineral-rich spring waters, primarily quarried in the ancient stone-rich regions of the Middle East and Mediterranean. Its creamy ivory and beige tones are punctuated by soft caramel and walnut-brown veining, along with the characteristic voids and pitting that give travertine its unmistakable rustic texture. The tumbled finish softens and rounds all edges and faces, revealing a weathered, aged surface with a matte, earthy sheen.

As a genuine natural stone, each tile will display its own unique pattern of color, veining, and surface pitting — subtle differences that are the hallmark of authentic travertine and add to its organic, handcrafted character.

About this tile: This 6×6 tumbled tile format offers a compact, versatile square that works beautifully in both field applications and feature areas. The tumbled process chips and softens the edges and surface, producing an antique, Old World aesthetic that is highly sought after for rustic, Mediterranean, and transitional interiors.

Design & Inspiration

The warm ivory and caramel palette of this travertine pairs naturally with aged brass or oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, whitewashed or natural white oak cabinetry, and warm-toned linen or terracotta accents. It is ideally suited for Mediterranean, Tuscan, rustic farmhouse, and transitional design styles where an authentic, time-worn sensibility is desired.

The 6×6 square format laid in a straight-set or offset brick pattern creates a grounded, classic feel for floors and walls, while the tumbled finish adds tactile depth and disguises wear and grout haze beautifully in high-traffic areas. The soft, pillowed edges produce gentle shadow lines between tiles that enhance the handmade, antique quality of the installation.

Popular design combinations: ivory travertine tumbled tiles paired with warm walnut cabinetry, aged brass fixtures, and a cream wide-format grout for a seamless Tuscan-inspired bathroom floor. Ivory Travertine 6×6 Tumbled Tile is a natural sedimentary stone renowned for its warm creamy-beige tones, caramel veining, and characteristic surface pitting that tells the story of its ancient geological formation. Quarried from some of the world's most celebrated travertine deposits in the Middle East and Mediterranean region, this stone brings timeless warmth and authentic character to any space.

The tumbled finish is achieved by tumbling cut tiles together to chip and round the edges and soften the face, resulting in a naturally aged, matte surface reminiscent of centuries-old stone floors found in European villas and courtyards. The 6×6 format installs quickly in a straight-set pattern and the pillowed edges create subtle grout-line shadowing that adds visual texture and depth to floors and walls alike.

This tile is an excellent choice for bathroom floors, entryways, mudrooms, covered outdoor patios, and kitchen floors where a warm, rustic aesthetic is the goal. Because travertine is naturally porous, sealing prior to installation and periodically thereafter is strongly recommended — we suggest ordering a sample to confirm the color and texture are the right fit for your project before purchasing in full quantity.

Free Shipping: This product ships at standard freight rates calculated at checkout based on your location and order size.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Ivory Travertine is a naturally porous stone and must be sealed before grouting and use. Apply a penetrating stone sealer to all surfaces and edges prior to installation, and reseal every 12–18 months in wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. The open voids typical of tumbled travertine should be filled with grout or a travertine filler prior to sealing for best results.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone soap or mild dish soap diluted in warm water — never use acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based products), alkaline degreasers, or abrasive scrubbers, as these will etch the stone and degrade the sealer. Wipe up spills promptly, especially acidic substances like citrus juice, wine, and coffee, which can stain or etch the surface even through a sealer.

Installation: Use a white or ivory-tinted polymer-modified thinset mortar to avoid show-through on lighter tiles. Back-butter each tile in addition to applying thinset to the substrate for full coverage and to fill irregular voids on the back of tumbled pieces. Use unsanded or sanded grout depending on your joint width (typically 3/16″ to 1/4″ for this format), and fill any surface voids with grout before the final clean-up stage. Allow a 1/8″ minimum grout joint to accommodate the natural variation in tumbled tile edges.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
Some natural stone and porcelain products contain substances known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Details at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
