Sealing: Although basalt is denser and lower in porosity than most natural stones, sealing is strongly recommended — especially for pool and outdoor applications. Apply a penetrating, water-based stone sealer specifically formulated for basalt before installation and reseal annually in submerged or heavily wet environments. In freeze-thaw climates, consistent sealing is critical to prevent moisture infiltration and surface spalling.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in water. Avoid acidic cleaners, muriatic acid pool treatments in direct contact with the tile surface, and any abrasive scrubbing pads that may scratch the honed finish. For pool tile calcium or mineral deposits along the waterline, use a non-acidic calcium remover specifically rated safe for natural stone.

Installation: Use a polymer-modified, gray or charcoal-tinted thinset mortar to complement the dark stone tones and prevent show-through at grout joints. Back-butter each tile in addition to the substrate for full contact coverage, especially in submerged applications. Use a sanded or epoxy grout appropriate for 6×6 field tile joints; epoxy grout is strongly recommended for fully submerged pool installations for superior stain and chemical resistance. Ensure substrate is waterproofed with a pool-rated membrane before tiling.

Color, veining, texture, shade, movement, finish, and sizing vary from piece to piece. Product photos and samples are a general reference and may not match the exact material you receive. These variations are inherent characteristics of natural stone — they are part of its beauty, not defects.

Before You Install

Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.
Blend tiles from multiple boxes as you work to achieve the most natural, balanced appearance.
Dry-lay and inspect the full layout before setting a single tile.
Installation constitutes full acceptance of the product, so review everything carefully first.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
