Sealing: Ivory travertine is a porous sedimentary stone and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation. In wet areas such as showers, reseal every 12 months with a penetrating, impregnating stone sealer. The split-face texture increases surface area and porosity, so apply sealer generously and allow full absorption before wiping excess. In dry applications such as fireplace surrounds, resealing every 2–3 years is generally sufficient.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone soap or cleaner only — never use vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, or any acidic or alkaline household cleaner, as travertine is highly susceptible to acid etching. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry promptly to prevent water spots. The textured split-face surface may accumulate dust or grout haze in the recesses; use a soft-bristle brush with pH-neutral solution for deeper cleaning.

Installation: Use white polymer-modified thinset mortar to avoid dark adhesive showing through the naturally light stone. Because the split-face surface is inherently uneven, back-butter each sheet generously to ensure full contact and prevent hollow spots. Use non-sanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch, or sanded grout for wider joints — apply grout with a grout bag or carefully trowel into recesses to avoid dragging across the jagged stone faces. Align mesh sheets carefully before setting, as the dimensional surface makes repositioning difficult once thinset begins to set.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
