Basalt Black Basalt Tile12 × 24 Honed

A deep charcoal basalt with fine mineral flecks, honed to a soft matte surface in a long 12×24 format.

Basalt Black runs from charcoal to near black, with faint mineral flecks across the surface. The honed finish is smooth and low in sheen. It absorbs light rather than reflecting it, which keeps a room quiet and grounded.

The 12×24 rectangle suits straight-set or offset layouts. Larger tiles mean fewer grout joints and cleaner horizontal lines. Try it on a bathroom wall, a kitchen backsplash or a living room feature wall. Seal the stone before grouting.

Order a sample for $7.99 each, up to 10 per order. Samples ship free and go out within 1-3 business days. Your sample comes from the lot we have in stock now, so it shows that lot's actual color range and finish. Future lots may look lighter, darker, or more veined, so order your full quantity plus 10% at once to keep the whole job from one lot.

Where It Works

  • Feature wallA large dark field with clean horizontal lines makes a calm focal point.
  • Kitchen backsplashThe matte surface and fewer joints keep the wall simple behind a counter.
  • Bathroom wallA honed, low-sheen finish suits a quiet, spa-like wall. Seal before grouting.
  • Low-traffic indoor floorWorks as a dry indoor floor in a bedroom, hall or living space.
  • Shower floor and wet-area floorsNot recommended. Honed stone is more absorbent, and wet-floor suitability is not confirmed.
  • Outdoor and pool areasNot recommended. This tile is listed for indoor use only.

Care & Cleaning

Seal It

Apply a penetrating stone sealer before grouting. Honed stone is more absorbent than polished, so let the sealer soak in thoroughly. Reseal as needed, especially in damp rooms.

Clean It

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner in warm water with a soft mop or microfiber cloth. Skip vinegar, citrus, bleach and abrasive scrubbers, which can etch the honed surface.

Expect This

Slight tonal shifts and mineral flecks are part of natural basalt. Wipe up oils and dark liquids promptly, since a honed finish can take on stains more readily than a polished one.

Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. Installation method, setting materials, and substrate are your installer's responsibility. Inspect every piece before setting; installation is acceptance, and installed material cannot be returned or claimed.

Questions

Will my order match the sample?

Your sample comes from the lot we have in stock now, so it shows that lot's actual color range and finish. Future lots may look lighter, darker, or more veined, so order your full quantity plus 10% at once to keep the whole job from one lot.

How do I order samples?

Order up to 10 samples per order at $7.99 each. Samples ship free and go out within 1-3 business days.

Does this tile need to be sealed?

Sealing is recommended and protects the honed surface from stains. Apply a penetrating stone sealer before grouting, then reseal as needed. Honed basalt is more absorbent than a polished finish.

How much should I order?

Order your installed square footage plus 10% for cuts and spares, all at once. Each 12×24 tile covers 2 sq ft, and the tile is sold per sq ft.

Can I use it on a floor?

Yes, it is listed for indoor floor and wall use, and it suits dry, low-traffic floors well. Shower floors, pools and outdoor spaces are not confirmed for this tile, so check with us before planning those.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
