About Calacatta Viola Marble Brushed Tile

Material Education

Calacatta Viola is a rare and dramatic Italian marble distinguished by its luminous white-to-warm-cream base and sweeping violet, burgundy, and gold veining. Quarried from select mountains in the Apuan Alps of northern Italy, it belongs to the prestigious Calacatta family — prized for centuries by architects and designers. Its bold, high-contrast veining pattern and refined crystalline structure make it one of the most visually striking natural stones available.

As a genuine natural stone, each slab of Calacatta Viola carries its own unique arrangement of veins, tonal shifts, and mineral inclusions — no two tiles will ever be identical, and this natural variation is precisely what gives the material its irreplaceable character.

About this tile: This 12×24 brushed tile presents Calacatta Viola in a large-format rectangle with a textured, matte surface created by wire-brushing the face of the stone, which softens the sheen while accentuating the natural grain and veining relief. The generous format minimizes grout lines for a seamless, slab-like appearance, and the brushed finish adds tactile warmth that polished marble cannot offer.

Design & Inspiration

The violet and burgundy veining of this marble pairs beautifully with warm brass or unlacquered bronze fixtures, white oak cabinetry, and deep charcoal or navy accents for a sophisticated transitional or contemporary-luxe aesthetic. It also complements soft linen tones and matte black hardware for a moodier, editorial look.

The 12×24 format laid in a stacked or offset brick pattern creates strong horizontal lines that visually expand a space, making it an exceptional choice for feature walls, shower surrounds, and master bathroom floors. The brushed finish adds slip resistance and a lived-in warmth that reads as both artisanal and refined.

Popular design combinations: Calacatta Viola 12×24 brushed tile on a shower surround paired with unlacquered brass rain showerheads, white oak floating vanity, and a Calacatta Viola hexagon mosaic floor for a cohesive, gallery-worthy bathroom. Calacatta Viola is one of the rarest members of the Calacatta marble family, featuring a creamy white background dramatically traversed by bold veins in shades of violet, burgundy, and warm gold. Sourced from the legendary Apuan Alps of northern Italy, it has long been a material of choice for luxury residential and hospitality interiors seeking stone with genuine visual impact.

This tile is finished with a brushed surface technique that gently roughens the face of the marble, resulting in a soft matte texture that amplifies the violet and gold veining without the mirror-like reflection of a polished finish. The 12×24 inch format reduces the number of grout joints needed, creating a clean, almost seamless look that allows the bold veining to flow uninterrupted across a surface.

Ideal for master bathroom walls, spa shower surrounds, statement kitchen backsplashes, and accent walls, this tile is suitable for both wall and floor applications in residential settings. Because Calacatta Viola is a rare stone with meaningful lot-to-lot variation, we strongly recommend ordering a sample before committing to a full quantity and purchasing all material needed for your project in a single order.

Free Shipping: This product ships at standard freight rates calculated at checkout based on your location and order size.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Calacatta Viola marble must be sealed before grouting and after installation with a premium penetrating (impregnating) stone sealer. Because the brushed finish is more porous than a polished surface, sealer absorbs more readily — apply two coats on initial installation. In wet areas such as showers, reseal every 12 months; in dry areas, every 18–24 months. The pale base of this stone makes prompt sealing especially important to prevent staining.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water and a soft microfiber cloth or mop. Avoid all acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus, grout haze removers) and alkaline products (bleach, ammonia-based sprays), as these will etch and dull the surface. The brushed texture can trap fine particles — use a soft-bristle brush for grout line cleaning rather than abrasive scrub pads. Blot spills immediately; oils, wine, and coffee can stain unsealed marble quickly.

Installation: Use a white polymer-modified thinset mortar — never gray thinset, which can telegraph through the pale stone. Back-butter each tile in addition to the substrate for full coverage and to prevent lippage on this large format. Use tile leveling clips during installation to keep surfaces flush. Allow 1/8" grout joints minimum; use a sanded grout for joints over 1/8". Let thinset cure fully (minimum 24 hours) before grouting. Always dry-lay tiles first to arrange veining direction for the most natural, slab-like flow.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
