Sealing: Basalt is a porous volcanic stone and must be sealed before grouting and regularly thereafter. Apply a penetrating natural stone sealer prior to installation and reseal every 12 months in wet areas such as shower walls — more frequently in high-use or steam environments. Do not leave the stone unsealed.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, citrus-based products, or anything with bleach, as these will etch and degrade the stone surface over time. The textured Downpour finish can trap soap residue — rinse thoroughly after each cleaning.

Installation: Use a white or grey polymer-modified thinset appropriate for natural stone; grey thinset is recommended for this dark stone to avoid any bleed-through at grout joints. Back-butter each tile in addition to troweling the substrate to ensure full coverage behind the relief texture. Install vertically to maximize the directional flow effect. Use a grout appropriate for your joint width and ensure all joints are fully sealed after grouting.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Color, veining, texture, shade, movement, finish, and sizing vary from piece to piece. Product photos and samples are a general reference and may not match the exact material you receive. These variations are inherent characteristics of natural stone — they are part of its beauty, not defects.

Before You Install

Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.
Blend tiles from multiple boxes as you work to achieve the most natural, balanced appearance.
Dry-lay and inspect the full layout before setting a single tile.
Installation constitutes full acceptance of the product, so review everything carefully first.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
