About Calacatta Viola Marble

Material Education

Calacatta Viola is one of the rarest and most coveted marbles in the world, quarried in Türkiye. It is prized for its bright white background dramatically cut through with bold burgundy, violet, and gold veining — making it the boldest, most colorful statement stone in the Calacatta family.

The dramatic veins are mineral deposits — iron oxides and other trace minerals that settled along natural fractures over millions of years. Shade variation (V3) means the intensity, direction, and color of the veining differ from piece to piece — the geological signature of genuine Calacatta Viola, not a defect.

Honed vs polished: The honed finish is a smooth matte surface that softens glare, hides etching and water spots, and offers more slip resistance underfoot — a versatile choice for both floors and walls. A polished finish, by contrast, is glossy and reflective, intensifying the veining contrast but showing etching more readily.

Design & Inspiration

Calacatta Viola's white-and-burgundy palette pairs beautifully with warm brass and gold fixtures, deep walnut cabinetry, and creamy plaster walls. The bold veining works as a natural focal point, so it's often balanced with quieter solid surfaces nearby to let the stone breathe.

In the oversized 18×36 format, the honed tile delivers the closest thing to a true slab look in tile form — sweeping, continuous veining with minimal interruption from grout lines. It's ideal for large feature floors, full accent walls, and shower surrounds where you want the marble's drama to flow uninterrupted. Blend pieces from multiple boxes to balance the veining across the surface.

Popular design combinations: pair this large-format tile with the coordinating Calacatta Viola 12x12 honed tile on adjacent surfaces, or add the Calacatta Viola herringbone mosaic for shower niches and accents. Explore the full Calacatta Viola collection for matching trims and slabs.

Calacatta Viola is one of the rarest and most coveted marbles in the world — quarried in Türkiye. Its bright white background is cut through with dramatic burgundy, violet, and gold veining, making it the boldest statement stone in the Calacatta family.

This 18×36 tile is the largest format in the Calacatta Viola line, honed to a smooth, low-sheen matte surface that softens glare and lets the spectacular veining take center stage. The oversized format reads almost like a slab — minimal grout lines and long, sweeping runs of veining for a truly seamless, gallery-like installation across floors and walls.

Suitable for feature floors, accent and shower walls, fireplace surrounds, vanity tops, and statement backsplashes. Each tile is unique natural stone — order free samples to evaluate the veining and color under your own lighting before placing a full order.

Shipping Cost: This is a full-size tile, which ships at standard freight rates calculated at checkout based on quantity and destination. Free shipping is not available on tile or porcelain orders — it applies only to qualifying mosaic and molding orders.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Standard shipping fees apply to all tile and porcelain orders. Additional charges may apply for delivery to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Sealing: Seal natural marble with a penetrating stone sealer before and after installation, and re-seal annually in kitchens and high-use areas. Calacatta Viola's bright white background can be prone to staining, so prompt and thorough sealing is important.

Cleaning: Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner only. Avoid acidic cleaners, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia-based products — these etch marble and permanently dull the surface. A honed finish hides etching and water spots better than polished, but still requires acid-free care to protect the bright white background.

Installation: Use white or light-colored thinset — standard gray thinset can bleed through the white marble and alter its appearance. Dry-lay tiles before setting to balance the veining and color across the layout. Professional installation is recommended for large-format tile.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine marble — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
Some natural stone and porcelain products contain substances known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Details at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
