About Pietra Gray Marble 12×24 Honed Tile

Material Education

Pietra Gray is a sophisticated dark limestone-marble hybrid quarried in the mountain regions of the Middle East, prized for its deep charcoal and cool ash-gray tones threaded with delicate white and silver fossil-laced veining. Its dense, fine-grained structure gives it a remarkably smooth surface and a quiet, restrained elegance that distinguishes it from more dramatic black marbles. The honed finish softens its depth into a velvety matte that enhances its natural gray complexity without the reflectivity of a polish.

As a genuine natural stone, each slab and tile of Pietra Gray will display its own unique arrangement of veins, fossils, and tonal shifts — slight differences in pattern and shade from piece to piece are the mark of authentic stone and contribute to the richness of a finished installation.

About this tile: This 12×24 honed field tile offers a large-format rectangle well suited to both floor and wall applications, allowing grout lines to recede and the stone's continuous grain to dominate the surface. The elongated format creates strong directional lines and a sense of expanded space, particularly effective in bathrooms, hallways, and feature walls.

Design & Inspiration

Pietra Gray's cool charcoal palette pairs beautifully with warm brass or matte black fixtures, white oak cabinetry, and crisp white or off-white grout for a balanced contrast that reads as both modern and timeless. It suits contemporary minimalist interiors, industrial-chic lofts, and serene spa-style bathrooms with equal authority.

The 12×24 format laid in a horizontal stack or offset brick pattern creates a seamless, floor-to-ceiling flow that amplifies the stone's dark, moody tones and makes smaller rooms feel larger and more resolved. On floors, the large slab-like proportion minimizes grout interruptions and gives the space a refined, architectural quality.

Popular design combinations: Pietra Gray honed floor tiles paired with polished Calacatta marble wall tiles and brushed brass fixtures for a dramatic yet luxurious spa bathroom. Explore the full Marble collection for coordinating sizes, and browse more marble tile for complementary looks.

Pietra Gray is a striking dark marble originating from the rugged quarries of the Middle East, characterized by its deep charcoal base punctuated with fine white and silver veining and subtle fossilized details that give it a quiet, textural depth unlike any other dark stone.

Finished with a precision hone, the surface is smooth and matte, eliminating glare while drawing the eye into the stone's natural complexity — the 12×24 format further enhances the effect by reducing grout lines and presenting the material in large, gallery-worthy planes that feel both bold and refined.

This tile is ideal for master bathroom floors, feature walls, shower surrounds, and large-format backsplashes; because it is a clearance item, quantities are limited and ordering a sample before committing to a full project is strongly recommended to confirm color match with existing materials.

Free Shipping: This product ships at standard freight rates calculated at checkout based on your location and order size.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Pietra Gray, like all natural marble, is porous and must be sealed prior to installation and regularly thereafter. Apply a penetrating stone sealer before grouting and reseal every 12 months in dry areas and every 6 months in wet environments such as showers and steam rooms. The honed finish, while more forgiving than polished, is still susceptible to staining from oils and mineral deposits and benefits greatly from consistent sealing.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner or a diluted solution of mild dish soap and warm water using a soft cloth or mop. Avoid all acidic cleaners including vinegar, lemon-based products, and citrus sprays, as these will etch the honed surface and leave dull marks. Do not use abrasive scrubbing pads or scouring powders. Wipe spills immediately, particularly oils, wine, and coffee, which can penetrate an unsealed or under-sealed surface.

Installation: Use a white polymer-modified thinset mortar to prevent any gray or dark adhesive from telegraphing through this light-to-mid-toned stone. Back-butter each tile in addition to applying thinset to the substrate to ensure full coverage and prevent hollow spots, which are particularly important for floor applications. Use a 1/4-inch notched trowel for proper adhesive coverage on the 12×24 format. Allow adequate curing time before grouting and select a sanded grout in a complementary gray tone for joints; use a grout release on the honed surface before applying grout to ease cleanup.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
