Sealing: Travertine is naturally porous and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation. In wet areas such as showers, reapply a penetrating stone sealer every 12–18 months to prevent moisture infiltration and staining. Ivory and cream-toned stones are particularly susceptible to showing oil and grease stains, so prompt sealing and maintenance are especially important.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Never use vinegar, citrus-based cleaners, bleach, or any acidic or alkaline products, as these will etch the honed surface and permanently dull the finish. Wipe up spills — especially oils, wine, and coffee — immediately to prevent absorption into the stone.

Installation: Use white or ivory unsanded thinset mortar to avoid dark show-through on the pale stone. The mesh-backed sheets should be aligned carefully on a flat substrate before pressing firmly into the mortar bed. Fill natural voids in the travertine with grout or a color-matched filler prior to final grouting. Use unsanded grout for the tight mosaic joints and apply grout haze remover formulated specifically for natural stone — never use acidic cleaners for cleanup.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
