Sealing: Travertine is a naturally porous stone and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation with a penetrating stone sealer. In wet areas such as showers and bathroom floors, reseal every 12–18 months to prevent moisture infiltration and staining. The ivory field stone is particularly susceptible to discoloration from oils, soaps, and hard water, so consistent sealing is essential.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water and a soft mop or cloth. Avoid all acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus, grout haze removers) and alkaline degreasers, as these will etch the travertine surface and dull the natural finish. Wipe up spills promptly, especially oils, coffee, and wine, to prevent staining on the porous surface.

Installation: Use white thinset mortar to prevent the adhesive from telegraphing through the lighter ivory stone. Apply non-sanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch; for the naturally pitting surface of tumbled travertine, use a grout float and work carefully to fill all voids. Back-butter individual chips in addition to the substrate for full coverage, and fill any natural surface pits in the travertine with grout or a color-matched filler for a smooth, finished result. Align mesh sheets carefully before pressing to maintain consistent joint spacing across the field.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
