Sealing: Travertine is a porous stone and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation. Apply a penetrating stone sealer to all surfaces, including grout joints, and reapply every 12–18 months in wet areas such as showers and pool surrounds. The tumbled, pitted surface of pebble mosaics is particularly absorbent and benefits from two coats on initial application.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft brush or mop — never use vinegar, citrus-based cleaners, or any acidic product, as acid will etch and dissolve the calcium carbonate in travertine. Avoid harsh scrubbing pads that can scratch the soft stone surface. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and dry wet areas promptly to prevent mineral deposits.

Installation: Use a white polymer-modified thinset to prevent gray bleed-through on the light ivory stone. Align mesh sheets carefully edge-to-edge, checking for even joint spacing before pressing firmly into the mortar bed. Back-butter each sheet on heavily textured or pebbled surfaces to ensure full coverage and eliminate voids beneath irregular chips. Use a sanded grout in a matching buff or cream tone; fill all natural pits in the travertine face with grout or filler before final grouting for a smoother, easier-to-clean surface.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
