Sealing: Travertine is a naturally porous stone and must be sealed before grouting and again after installation. Use a penetrating stone sealer rated for travertine; reapply every 12–18 months in shower and high-moisture environments. The tumbled finish's open surface texture absorbs liquids readily, making diligent sealing especially critical.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water — never use vinegar, citrus-based cleaners, bleach, or any acidic products, as they will etch and pit the travertine surface. Wipe spills promptly; standing water or acidic liquids can stain the open pores of tumbled stone. A soft mop or microfiber cloth is recommended for routine maintenance.

Installation: Use white polymer-modified thinset mortar to prevent any gray bleed-through on pale ivory chips. Align mesh sheets carefully, butting edges tightly to maintain pattern continuity across joints. Non-sanded grout is recommended for joints under 1/8 inch; sanded grout may scratch the softened tumbled edges. Back-butter individual chips in recessed niche areas for full coverage. Fill any unfilled pores with a travertine filler or matching grout color before final sealing.

Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
