About Calacatta Viola Marble Polished Pencil Liner

Material Education

Calacatta Viola is a rare and luxurious Italian marble prized for its bright white base and dramatic violet-to-warm-gold veining that sets it apart from more common Calacatta varieties. Quarried in the Apuan Alps of northern Italy, this stone exhibits a bold, painterly vein structure with rich purple and amber tones running across a luminous crystalline ground. The polished surface amplifies the stone's natural brilliance, bringing out deep color contrast and a mirror-like sheen.

As a natural stone, each piece of Calacatta Viola carries its own unique vein pattern and color distribution — this inherent variation is the hallmark of authentic marble and ensures no two installations are ever identical.

About this molding: This 3/4×12 pencil liner is a slender, elongated molding trim piece sold per linear foot, designed to create refined border accents, transitions, and decorative inlays within tile installations. Its slim profile makes it ideal for framing larger field tiles, defining niche shelves, or adding a polished finishing line wherever a clean, elegant border is desired.

Design & Inspiration

The striking white-and-violet palette of Calacatta Viola pairs beautifully with brushed brass or matte gold fixtures, warm white oak cabinetry, and deep charcoal or navy accents, lending itself to luxurious contemporary, Art Deco-inspired, and high-end transitional interiors. Its rare chromatic character elevates any space with a sense of artistic sophistication.

A pencil liner in this format is perfectly suited for framing bathroom niches, shower wall panels, fireplace surrounds, and backsplash borders — its narrow 3/4-inch face draws the eye along a crisp line without competing with the field tile. The polished finish ensures the violet veining reads as a jewel-toned accent that ties together surrounding stone surfaces.

Popular design combinations: pair with large-format Calacatta Viola field tiles and brushed brass fixtures in a master bath for a cohesive, gallery-quality statement. Calacatta Viola is one of the most coveted marbles in the world, sourced from the celebrated Apuan Alps and distinguished by its pristine white background laced with sweeping violet, lavender, and warm gold veins. This pencil liner trim piece brings that extraordinary material into a refined, architectural molding format measuring 3/4 inch wide by 12 inches long.

The polished finish heightens the stone's natural contrast, making the purple and amber veining appear vivid and jewel-like against the bright white ground. This slim molding integrates seamlessly into tile layouts, providing a polished linear accent that elevates transitions between surfaces, frames niches, or punctuates a field tile installation with a touch of couture detail.

Ideal for shower walls, bathroom borders, kitchen backsplash accents, and fireplace surrounds, this pencil liner is best used alongside coordinating Calacatta Viola field tiles or mosaics for a fully cohesive look. Because this is a specialty trim item with limited availability, ordering a sample before committing to a full project quantity is strongly recommended.

Free Shipping: As a molding, this product qualifies for free curbside shipping on orders over $1,999 within the continental U.S. Orders below that threshold ship at standard rates calculated at checkout.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Calacatta Viola is a white marble with high porosity and must be sealed before grouting and after installation. Apply a penetrating stone sealer rated for polished marble and reseal every 6–12 months in wet areas such as showers. The light background is especially vulnerable to staining from oils, soaps, and hard water minerals, so consistent sealing is critical.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge. Avoid vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, or any acidic or alkaline cleaners — these will etch the polished surface and dull the stone's mirror finish. Wipe up spills immediately, particularly red wine, coffee, and oily substances, to prevent staining the white background.

Installation: Use white polymer-modified thinset mortar to prevent any gray adhesive from telegraphing through the bright white stone. Pencil liners should be set with non-sanded grout in a matching or complementary tone for joints under 1/8 inch. Dry-fit pieces first to plan vein direction and ensure consistent alignment across the border run. Allow full cure time before exposing the installation to water.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
