Rust, gold, brown and cream travertine in 2×4 chips, tumbled soft at the edges and pre-mounted on mesh for a brick-offset layout.

Scabos travertine runs from rust and gold to brown, cream and ivory, often within a single sheet. The surface carries natural pits and cross-cut veining. Tumbling softens the edges and gives each chip a worn, pillowed look.

The 2×4 chips come pre-arranged on a mesh-backed sheet, which keeps joint spacing even and speeds layout. At eye level, the small scale adds texture to a backsplash, bath wall or fireplace surround. Seal before grouting, since the open pits can stain if left bare.

Care & Cleaning

Seal It

Seal before grouting and again as needed. In wet areas such as showers, apply a penetrating stone sealer every 12 months. The open pits stain easily if left unsealed.

Clean It

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner in warm water with a soft cloth or mop. Avoid vinegar, citrus cleaners, bleach and other acids, which etch the stone. Wipe spills promptly.

Expect This

Color, veining and pitting vary from chip to chip. Fill voids with grout or a void filler. Use white or beige thinset, since gray can show through lighter chips.

Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. Installation method, setting materials, and substrate are your installer's responsibility. Inspect every piece before setting; installation is acceptance, and installed material cannot be returned or claimed.

Can I use this mosaic in a shower?

Yes, on shower walls and surrounds. The small chips fit niches and curves well. Seal before grouting and reseal every 12 months in wet areas. If you are considering a shower floor, check with us first.

What do I do about the pits and voids?

You can fill them with grout or a void filler, before or after installation, for a smoother surface. Seal the stone before grouting so the open pits resist staining.

Which thinset and grout should I use?

Use a white or beige polymer-modified thinset so nothing shows through the lighter chips. Non-sanded grout suits joints up to 1/8 inch. Press the mesh sheets firmly into the bed for full contact.

Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.
