Scabos Travertine is one of the most visually striking travertines available, originating from quarries in Western Asia and featuring a bold palette of walnut brown, rust, gold, and cream with dramatic linear veining that sets it apart from more neutral travertine varieties.

This 12×12 tile is filled and honed — the natural voids characteristic of travertine have been filled smooth, and the surface has been ground to a refined matte satin finish that highlights the stone's rich color variation without a reflective sheen, making it ideal for spaces where understated elegance and slip resistance are priorities.

Scabos Travertine in this format excels as a floor tile in entryways, bathrooms, kitchens, and living areas, and works equally well as a feature wall tile or shower surround; because this is a clearance or natural-variation stone, ordering a sample before purchasing in quantity is strongly recommended to confirm the color range meets your project expectations.

Free Shipping: This product ships at standard freight rates calculated at checkout based on your location and order size.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Scabos Travertine must be sealed before grouting and use. Apply a penetrating impregnating sealer rated for travertine; in wet areas such as showers and bathroom floors, reseal every 12–18 months. The darker hues of Scabos can mask etching better than white stones, but sealing is still critical to prevent staining from oils and acids.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water; avoid all acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus-based products) and alkaline degreasers, as these will etch and dull the honed surface. Wipe spills — especially wine, coffee, and citrus — promptly. A damp mop with clean water is suitable for routine maintenance.

Installation: Use a white or gray polymer-modified thinset appropriate for the grout color you select — a warm beige or walnut thinset will complement Scabos tones. Back-butter each tile in addition to applying thinset to the substrate to achieve full coverage and prevent hollow spots. Use 1/16" to 1/8" grout joints; a sanded grout in a warm brown or walnut tone best complements the stone's palette. Ensure the substrate is flat to within 1/8" over 10 feet.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Product & Installation Guidance

Natural stone is a product of the earth — every piece is one of a kind. A little planning ensures your finished installation looks its best and lasts for decades.

Natural Variation
Color, veining, texture, shade, movement, finish, and sizing vary from piece to piece. Product photos and samples are a general reference and may not match the exact material you receive. These variations are inherent characteristics of natural stone — they are part of its beauty, not defects.

Before You Install

  • Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes as you work to achieve the most natural, balanced appearance.
  • Dry-lay and inspect the full layout before setting a single tile.
  • Installation constitutes full acceptance of the product, so review everything carefully first.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot is not responsible for improper installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, product misuse, or damage from improper handling, sealing, maintenance, or harsh chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements can be accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65: Some natural stone products contain substances known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Order a Sample First

Seeing real stone in your own space — under your own light, beside your own finishes — is the best way to buy with confidence. We make it easy and affordable.

How It Works
Samples are just $7.99 each with free shipping, and they ship in 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability, typically ranging from 3"×3" up to 8"×8". Exact dimensions aren't guaranteed, but every sample is cut from the same material you'll receive in a full order.

What a Sample Shows
Samples help you evaluate the general color, texture, finish, and overall character of a product before committing to a full order. Because natural stone varies from piece to piece, your sample is representative — it may not capture the complete range of variation across an entire lot. For current lot photos, just ask our team.

Good to Know
