Scabos travertine is a distinctive natural stone celebrated for its rich, multi-tonal palette of walnut brown, amber, charcoal, and warm beige — a depth of color that sets it apart from lighter travertine varieties. Quarried in the Mediterranean region, this stone bears the authentic sedimentary banding, natural voids, and organic veining that make every installation truly unique.

Each sheet features 2×2-inch hexagonal chips in a classic honeycomb arrangement, tumbled to produce softly rounded edges and a beautifully aged, matte surface texture. The mesh backing ensures the geometry stays perfectly aligned during installation, dramatically reducing layout time compared to hand-set individual pieces. The tumbled finish adds natural slip resistance, making this mosaic as practical as it is beautiful.

This mosaic is an excellent choice for shower floors, bathroom floors, spa wet areas, kitchen backsplashes, and accent niches where a warm, rustic character is desired. As a clearance or natural stone product, ordering a sample first is strongly recommended to confirm the color tones work with your existing materials and lighting. Fill natural travertine voids with unsanded grout or a color-matched filler prior to sealing for a polished, finished result.

Free Shipping: As a mosaic, this product qualifies for free curbside shipping on orders over $1,999 within the continental U.S. Orders below that threshold ship at standard rates calculated at checkout.

Processing & Delivery: Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. Large orders ship via LTL freight — curbside delivery only. An adult must be present to sign for delivery. Estimated transit: 2–10 business days after shipment.

30-Day Returns: Uninstalled tile may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Inspect all tile carefully before installation — installed tile cannot be returned or exchanged. Samples are final sale.

Exclusions: Free shipping does not apply to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses. Additional charges may apply for remote delivery areas.

Sealing: Scabos travertine is a porous stone and must be sealed before grouting and after installation. Apply a penetrating, impregnating sealer formulated for travertine; in wet areas such as shower floors, reseal every 12 months or as soon as water no longer beads on the surface. The tumbled finish and natural stone voids make thorough sealing especially important to prevent moisture infiltration and staining.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in warm water and a soft mop or cloth. Avoid all acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus, grout haze removers) and alkaline degreasers, as travertine is highly sensitive to acid etching. Blot spills — especially coffee, wine, and oils — immediately to prevent staining. Do not use abrasive scrubbers that could roughen the tumbled surface further.

Installation: Use white polymer-modified thinset mortar to avoid any gray bleed-through on lighter chips within the blend. Align mesh sheets carefully, maintaining consistent grout joint spacing between sheets. Use unsanded grout for joints up to 1/8 inch. Before grouting, fill any open travertine voids with grout or a color-matched travertine filler. Back-butter individual sheets in addition to troweling the substrate for full adhesion coverage on floor applications.

Important: Inspect all tile before installation. Variations in color, veining, and texture between pieces are natural characteristics of genuine stone — not defects. Order 10% overage for cuts, waste, and future repairs. Tile & Mosaic Depot specialists are available M–F 8:30AM–5PM PST at 855-797-8453.

Why Order a Sample
A screen can't show you how Calacatta veining reads under your kitchen lights or how a porcelain finish sits next to your cabinet color. A sample can. It's the single best way to buy stone or porcelain tile with confidence — and the cheapest mistake you'll ever avoid.

How It Works
Samples are $7.99 each. Samples ship free and leave our warehouse within 1–3 business days. Sizes vary by material and availability — typically 3"×3" up to 8"×8" — and every sample is cut from the same material stocked for full orders.

What a Sample Shows
Color, texture, finish, and overall character. Because natural stone varies piece to piece, one sample represents the material but can't show the full range of a lot. Porcelain samples are highly representative of the production run. Want to see the current lot before you commit? Ask us — we'll send photos.

Good to Know

  • Samples are final sale — non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • We recommend sampling before every full order, especially for natural stone.
  • Larger or custom quantity? Contact us for a tailored quote.

Talk to a Specialist
Our stone and tile specialists will help you narrow it down. Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5 PM PT.

How Your Order Ships
In-stock orders leave our warehouse within 2–3 business days. Stone, porcelain, and mosaic ship on a pallet via scheduled LTL freight and arrive 2–10 business days after dispatch, depending on destination. You'll get tracking and the carrier's name by email the day it ships.

Freight Delivery — What to Expect

  • The carrier calls you first. Every freight delivery is by appointment. Expect a call or text to set a window before the truck is dispatched.
  • Curbside delivery. The driver unloads to the curb or driveway. Freight does not include carrying material indoors or into a garage — plan for a helper or a hand truck.
  • Someone 18+ must sign. Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage, shortage, or broken shrink-wrap on the delivery receipt — this is what makes a claim valid.
  • Truck access. The address must be accessible to a full-size freight truck with enough space to unload.

Free Shipping
Free curbside freight on qualifying mosaic and molding orders over $1,999 in the continental U.S. Field tile, porcelain, and other product types ship at freight rates shown at checkout. Not available to Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. territories, or international addresses.

Damage & Shortages
Report within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos of the pallet, packaging, and affected pieces to sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com. Verified claims are covered. Shortages of 1–5 pieces are refunded rather than reshipped — which is why we recommend ordering 10% overage.

30-Day Returns
Uninstalled tile in full, unopened boxes may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return freight is paid by the customer. Partial boxes, opened boxes, installed material, and samples are final sale.

Questions Before You Order?
Call (855) 797-8453 or email sales@tileandmosaicdepot.com, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5 PM PT. If you're unsure about freight access at your address, ask us before checkout — we'll flag anything that could hold up delivery.

Natural Variation
Quarried stone varies in color, veining, shade, movement, and finish from piece to piece and from lot to lot. Screen photos and samples show the range, not the exact tile you'll receive. Variation is the nature of the material and is never grounds for return. Porcelain is far more consistent, but shade and pattern can still shift between production runs — buy your full quantity in one order.

Before You Install

  • Order 10% overage. Covers cuts, breakage, and spares for future repairs. Reorders may not match in tone or lot.
  • Inspect every piece before setting. Pull from all boxes, blend, and dry-lay the full area. Installation is acceptance — no claims are honored once tile is set.
  • Hire a qualified installer. Natural stone and large-format porcelain require experience with the material. Your installer is responsible for substrate, setting materials, and method.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a penetrating sealer and re-sealed periodically in wet and high-traffic areas. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only — vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners etch marble, limestone, travertine, and onyx permanently. Porcelain does not require sealing. Outdoor stone weathers and shifts in tone over time; this is expected.

Responsibility
Tile & Mosaic Depot supplies material only. We are not responsible for installation, labor costs, substrate conditions, setting materials, product misuse, or damage from handling, sealing, maintenance, or chemicals. No claims, returns, or replacements are accepted on installed material.

California Proposition 65
