Sealing: Scabos travertine must be sealed prior to installation and re-sealed annually in outdoor or wet environments such as pool decks. Use a high-quality penetrating impregnator sealer rated for exterior stone. For porous tumbled surfaces, two coats of sealer are recommended at first application. In dry, covered patio areas, re-sealing every 1–2 years may be sufficient.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in water — never use vinegar, citrus-based cleaners, bleach, or any acid-based product, as travertine is calcium-based and will etch. For outdoor use, a low-pressure rinse with water removes most dirt; for stains, use a poultice appropriate for the stain type (oil-based or organic). Avoid pressure washing at high settings as it can erode the tumbled surface texture over time.

Installation: For sand-set patio and walkway applications, prepare a compacted gravel base topped with a 1-inch bedding sand layer; 3cm pavers do not require a concrete slab in many residential exterior uses — consult a local hardscape professional for load and frost requirements. For mortar-set applications (pool decks, driveways), use a polymer-modified mortar and back-butter each piece to ensure full contact. Fill natural voids and pits in the stone surface with a color-matched travertine filler or grout prior to sealing. Use sanded grout for joints wider than 1/8 inch. In freeze-thaw climates, verify that the travertine is rated for exterior frost resistance before installation.

Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.

Installation constitutes full acceptance of the product, so review everything carefully first.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
