Sealing: Silver Travertine pool coping must be sealed with a penetrating, water-based impregnating sealer rated for exterior and submerged or splash-zone use before installation and re-sealed every 12 months in pool environments. Chlorinated and salt water are particularly aggressive — consistent sealing prevents staining, efflorescence, and long-term surface erosion. Pale and open-pored travertine is especially vulnerable to chemical absorption, so do not skip or delay initial sealing.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted in water; avoid all acid-based cleaners, vinegar, citrus, or muriatic acid products which will etch and erode the travertine surface. For pool-area grime or algae buildup, use a soft brush and a stone-safe outdoor cleaner — never a pressure washer at close range on the face of the stone. Rinse thoroughly after any pool chemical splash.

Installation: Use a polymer-modified white or gray thinset mortar rated for exterior and submerged/wet-area use; back-butter each 5cm piece fully given its weight and thickness to ensure 95%+ mortar coverage. Set coping pieces with a slight forward pitch (1/8 inch per foot) away from the pool edge to direct water runoff back onto the deck. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
