Sealing: Seal this honed Pietra Gray pencil liner with a penetrating impregnating stone sealer before grouting and after installation. Although dark marble is less prone to showing staining than pale stones, the honed finish is more absorbent than polished and benefits from sealing every 1–2 years in wet areas such as showers.

Cleaning: Clean with a pH-neutral stone soap or mild dish soap diluted in water — never use acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus), bleach, or abrasive scrubbers, as these will etch and dull the honed surface. Wipe dry after use in wet areas to prevent mineral deposits and soap scum buildup on the matte finish.

Installation: Use white or gray polymer-modified thinset mortar appropriate for the adjoining field tile color. For thin pencil liner strips, back-butter each piece individually to ensure full contact and prevent lippage or cracking. Maintain consistent joint width and use painter's tape to hold pieces in alignment while the mortar sets; non-sanded grout is recommended for the narrow joints typical of pencil liner installations.

Color, veining, texture, shade, movement, finish, and sizing vary from piece to piece. Product photos and samples are a general reference and may not match the exact material you receive. These variations are inherent characteristics of natural stone — they are part of its beauty, not defects.

Before You Install

Order roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs.
Blend tiles from multiple boxes as you work to achieve the most natural, balanced appearance.
Dry-lay and inspect the full layout before setting a single tile.
Installation constitutes full acceptance of the product, so review everything carefully first.

Sealing & Care
Natural stone should be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer before and after installation, and re-sealed periodically in wet or high-traffic areas. Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic products, bleach, vinegar, and ammonia, which can permanently etch the surface. Outdoor installations may weather or change tone over time with exposure.
